Late fightback seals Livingston Women's first SWPL2 victory

A last-minute stunner from Beth McKay earned Livingston their first three points in the SWPL 2 with the late strike completing a dramatic comeback to see off Glasgow Women 2-1 away from home.

The Lionesses threatened early on from set-pieces with McKay’s deliveries causing issues for the home side, although they couldn't make the breakthrough. A nice spell from the away side saw a goal-kick worked up the park, eventually falling in the path of a marauding Natasha Frew whose effort went just over.

The home side had a glorious chance as Morgan Anderson went one-on-one but the forward fluffed her lines in the crucial moment.

Glasgow took the lead on the hour mark, with a long free-kick going deep into the Livingston box, eventually fired home by Kayleigh Barghati for the opener.

Despite falling behind, Livi continued to threaten with McKay’s cross unable to be headed in by Sharon Hughes-Lee, before Jess Murphy’s header was cleared off the line.

The away side had to remain patient and continued working the ball around, eventually getting their reward through Lauren Evans. A well-worked piece of possession found Hughes-Lee out wide, who crossed in for the substitute to score her first for the club and level things up with five minutes to play.

The momentum was all in Livingston’s favour as they pushed for a chance to snatch three points late on, which duly fell their way.

A long ball forward saw Glasgow’s keeper Khym Ramsay rush off her line to clear, with the ball ending up at the feet of McKay. Her touch expertly set her up to fire the ball goalwards, high enough to evade Ramsay and another Glasgow defender and into the back of the net for an injury-time winner.
