Lascelles struggling, Bruno battling: Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United half-time ratings
Eddie Howe's Newcastle have a lot of work to do to get back into their Premier League match with Manchester City, trailing 2-0 at the break. Newcastle had the first real chance of the game, when Chris Wood met Allan Saint-Maximin's cross but could only head straight at Ederson in the City goal.
Aymerick Laporte went close for the hosts almost immediately after in what was a close opening period. Joao Cancelo then met Kevin de Bruyne's far-post cross but steered the ball wide.
City took the lead on 18 minutes when Gundogan's pass opened up the Newcastle defence and Raheem Sterling turned home Cancelo's knockdown. Newcastle did have the ball in the back of the net when Jamaal Lascelles' header from corner hit Bruno Guimaraes and was poked him by Chris Wood, but the Brazilian midfielder was in an offside position.
The home side doubled their lead just before the break when Dubravka couldn't gather a corner, and Laporte turned the ball home following Dias' challenge on the United keeper
