Joelinton named Newcastle United Player of the Year after standout season

Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton has been named the club's Player of the Year for the 2021/22 season. The Brazilian, who has featured 35 times thus far for Eddie Howe's side this term follows last year's winner Callum Wilson in claiming the award.

Much has been made of the transition the former Hoffenheim man has undertaken, moving further deeper into a central role since November.

With the Magpies staving off any lingering relegation woes too, the 25-year-old has captured the hearts of the United faithful in the process.

His energetic nature, largely partnered with Bruno Guimaraes and Jonjo Shelvey in midfield, has allowed Chris Wood and Allan Saint-Maximum too to be more clinical in forward areas.

Chipping in with two goals against already relegated Norwich City just last month too, the United number seven was delighted to claim the accolade.

After being presented with the award, Joelinton told club media : "I'm delighted and very happy to win this award. Thank you to the fans, the players and the staff for helping me, and all my family and friends. Thank you.

"It has been a great season for me. Many things have happened, but I'm very happy to help the team and help the team stay in the Premier League. Hopefully next season will be even better."

United have Arsenal and Burnley still yet to come before the end of the campaign, as they look to potentially climb as high as ninth in the table.
