Large-scale river search underway in Carmarthenshire after woman reported missing

A large-scale search of a river is underway in Carmarthenshire after a 55-year-old woman was reported missing. Emergency services were first called to the Pontargothi area around seven miles east of Carmarthen on Sunday evening after reports that someone entered the water.

As of Monday afternoon and into the evening there was a large emergency services presence in Pontargothi and along the River Cothi heading towards Llanfynydd. There are police officers in attendance along with crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Western Beacons Mountain Rescue Team. A police helicopter has also landed in a field next to the river a short distance from the Cothi Bridge in Pontargothi.

Police confirmed on Monday evening that the search is centred around a woman named Angharad, aged 55, who has was reported missing from her home in the Nantgaredig area late on Sunday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said on Monday: "We are searching for a woman who has been reported as missing. Angharad, aged 55, was reported missing from her home in the Nantgaredig area late yesterday afternoon. She is described as a white female, about 5ft 1in tall, of medium build with brown hair. She is believed to be wearing blue jeans, a blue jumper and pink wellington boots. Her family and police are extremely concerned for her whereabouts and she is being treated as a high-risk missing person.
