Lady Norma thanks fans after £150,000 raised in honour of Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton

Manchester United have announced that over £150,000 has been raised for charity in memory of Sir Bobby Charlton since his passing last year.

Charlton, who died at the age of 86, made 758 appearances for United and won the European Cup at Wembley in 1968, scoring twice in the 4-1 win against Benfica in the final. That famous victory came a decade after the Munich air disaster, in which he survived but many of his friends and teammates didn’t.

Charlton played for United less than a month after the crash and remained a prominent figure even after his retirement from the game. He took up a role as club director in 1984, a position he held for nearly 40 years.

Football fans looking to celebrate the life of one of the greatest ever have honoured Charlton by raising money for various causes that meant so much to him.

Following his passing in October 2023, the club donated £100,000 to charities close to Sir Bobby’s heart to continue his legacy. This donation was allocated by the Charlton family to the Sir Bobby Charlton Foundation, Alzheimer’s Society and The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT).

As well as the donation from the club, more than £50,000 was also raised by donations from thousands of football fans who wished to honour the United and England legend by supporting the causes he was so passionate about.
