Brendan Rodgers has revealed Kyogo Furuhashi is likely to need surgery to sort out his long standing shoulder problem.
But the Celtic boss will leave it up to the hitman to decide when he wants to go under the knife. Rodgers is on the verge of landing Legia Warsaw £4.3m centre half Maik Nawrocki on a five year deal, with the 22-year-old Pole completing a medical in Glasgow yesterday and agreeing a five-year deal.
Korean stars Yang Hyun-jun and Kweon Hyeok-kyo will make it a triple signing swoop at the start of the week. But the Hoops gaffer is also determined to wrap player of the year Kyogo in cotton wool in the coming weeks. The 28-year-old played 25 minutes against Yokohama F Marinos on Wednesday and another 45 in yesterday’s 1-0 win against Gamba Osaka as Celts rounded off their Japanese tour. And Rodgers said: “Kyogo is still working on his fitness as he had a problem in Portugal with his shoulder. It’s obviously something he deals with.
“I’ve seen it in the past with players when their shoulders can pop out a little bit. It’s probably one of those where it probably won’t be totally right until he has an operation on it.
“But he can obviously get by without that as he’s not in any real pain other than when it pops out. Surgery would be down the player.
“We had it with Kieran (Tierney) a few years back when had a similar thing but it’s always up to the player. I remember the injury, against Hearts on the last game of the season.
“He came off but he’s got that tough mentality which is great. He’s a fighter so he’ll get back up to speed.”
