Kyogo booking sparks furious Celtic TV commentary meltdown as John Beaton told he 'should be embarrassed'

Raging Peter Grant took aim at referee John Beaton after the referee booked Kyogo Furuhashi – with the Celtic legend insisting the St Mirren defender had blocked the forward.

Brendan Rodgers side were pushed all the way by the Buddies at Celtic Park – with Conor McMenamin giving the Paisley outfit an early lead in Glasgow's east end before David Turnbull levelled the game. The Scottish Premiership leaders would be made to wait for their winner with Oh Hyeon-gyu climbing off the bench to net in the closing stages of the clash.

But it was a booking dished out to Kyogo that has peppered the post-match talking points and Grant ripped into the call while on commentary for Celtic TV. The Japan international was running towards St Mirren goalkeeper Zach Hemming to pressure the Buddies No.1 into kicking the ball out, but was involved in a tussle with Marcus Fraser before he could reach the shot-stopper.

Whistler Beaton would blow up for a foul from Kyogo despite it appearing defender Fraser had intentionally stepped into the path of the Celtic frontman. Irked Grant said on co-commentary: "He has been blocked from running, and you are not supposed to be able to do that.

"He has stopped in front of the player. They have done it from kick-off any time it is played back and it is the defender’s fault. I find it incredible the referee has given a booking for that, absolutely incredible. He should be embarrassed."

Grant's co-commentator chimed in: "I think he has booked him for kicking the player. But he views that as a booking." Grant fired back: "If he is kicking the player, it's an ordering off. You can't stop somebody running."
