Dalbeattie Star draw with Lochar Thistle is "mixture of ups and downs" for boss

It was a “mixture of ups and downs” for Dalbeattie Star boss Eddie Warwick on Saturday.

The Islecroft men twice trailed at home to Lochar Thistle and twice came back to level things up at 2-2.

And late on they had chances to bag the winner that would have given them all three points.

Warwick admitted: “On the whole we probably didn’t deserve three points with how we started the game.

“Lochar also had other chances in the game but their goalkeeper was busier than ours second half and on another day we may have nicked it. A point was probably fair in the end and good luck to Lochar for the rest of the season.

“It was a mixture of ups and downs and credit to Lochar, I thought they were really brave in how they set up against us and choose to play.

“I think they were the better team for the first 20 minutes until we settled and got some control of the game. But we were making life very difficult for ourselves especially in the way we conceded Lochar’s two goals.

“We have had six clean sheets this season in all competitions and prior to the game we had conceded the fewest goals in the league and shipped only two goals at home so far this season.

“It was very frustrating, to say the least, and it just wasn’t good enough or our normal standards.

“What I was pleased with is we showed great character and grit – going behind twice and coming back – and in all fairness in the last 15 minutes we were all out attack and created three or four really good opportunities to score a third but unfortunately we didn’t take our chances.

“We also created a lot of chances, some bigger than others, but I’d be more concerned if we didn’t create much in front of goal.”
