Kyle Walker challenges Erling Haaland to improve even more with Harry Kane comparison

Erling Haaland can continue to break records for Manchester City, but must show consistency over multiple seasons, teammate Kyle Walker says.

Haaland notched his 50th goal of the season in all competitions with his penalty at Fulham on Sunday, equalling the Premier League record of 34 league goals in a single season in the process. With nine games remaining - 10 if City reach the Champions League final - he has a chance to set a record that could take years to be broken.

Walker, however, feels that Haaland will go on breaking records for City if his debut campaign is anything to go by, but he has to continue what he's been doing over the coming seasons.

Comparing Haaland to England and former Tottenham teammate Harry Kane, Walker noted that the Norwegian has raised the bar of what to expect from a number nine. And Walker also conceded that he wasn't anticipating Haaland to be so prolific since joining City.

Walker said: "I could see [his quality] when we played against him in the Champions League but did I feel he could hit the ground running and get the goals he has done - of course not.

"To come to a new league and a new team it’s always going to be difficult. That shows the level of the player, the maturity of the young boy at 22. Long may it continue. It’s extraordinary what he’s done.

"I’ve had the privilege to play with him and Harry Kane now, who for me are up there with the best out and out number nines. The goals they both score is tremendous. Erling has taken it to a new level now - he’s set the bar, he’s only young and he needs to keep doing this season in season out to hopefully keep on breaking more
