Kwara United boss canvasses modern, effective playing grounds

The Chairman of Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin, Kumbi Titiloye, has canvassed modern and effective playing grounds for Nigerian clubs towards giving them opportunities to excel at continental competitions.

Speaking with The Guardian, yesterday, in Ilorin, Titiloye said bad pitches at the local levels often deter the success rates of Nigerian teams at continental competitions, especially CAF organised events.

He said: “In terms of talents and technicalities, Nigerian players and coaches have no rival in Africa. But most of our pitches don’t prepare us for continental duels. The players are not used to them. We need to step up and do the needful in this area. This is my personal opinion.”

The KWUFC boss in a retrospection of the last football season said some variable factors affected the fortunes of his club, but with a promise that the new season would be more fruitful.

“Since the 2020 seasons, our least position on the log had been fourth. But last season was a poor experience for us. The renovation of our stadium forced us out of Ilorin. We lost so many advantages in the process. But we are lucky to have escaped relegation. Now that we are back in Ilorin, our people should see us as a team to be reckoned with this new season and even beyond,” Titiloye stated.

He praised the state Governor, Mallam AbdulRahaman AbdulRazak for his financial interventions over the affairs of the team, but canvassed more financial interventions for the club despite the harsh economic reality.
