Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho aren't the only Manchester United kids who deserve a chance

"If players are good enough, they are old enough." Erik ten Hag echoed the words of legendary Sir Matt Busby with his assessment of Kobbie Mainoo yesterday and threw down the gauntlet to the other promising young players in the Manchester United squad.

It was a pretty good weekend to be associated with the United academy. Alejandro Garnacho scored one of the greatest goals of all time and Kobbie Mainoo-mania swept across Manchester after their respective starring roles in the weekend win at Everton.

The teenage duo will both be hoping to do it all again when United travel to face Galatasaray in a must-win Champions League tie tonight and they aren't the only youngsters who could be given a chance.

United will be boosted by the return of £154 million duo Rasmus Hojlund and Antony to the squad tonight, yet even without the suspended Marcus Rashford, there is no guarantee either of them will start.

Ten Hag won't want to take any risks ahead of a packed fixture schedule and will want to carefully manage their fitness after their respective recent knocks.

Garnacho seems certain to keep his starting role and Anthony Martial deserves to start too, meaning there is only one other position up for grabs from the start.

That could well fall to Hojlund if he is deemed match-ready, with Martial repurposed out wide, though it is less certain Antony will get a game even if he passes pre-match fitness tests.

His performance levels have been a concern all season. The Brazilian was an unused substitute in their last Champions League outing and again had to rely on a bench role for the home win over Luton.
