Knife seized as two men arrested after early-hours street brawl

A knife was seized as two men were arrested after a brawl in the street in Tameside.

Police were called to the scene of a 'disturbance' on Railway Street in Dukinfield at around 1am on Saturday morning (February 24). Officers found a 'group of males fighting'.

Greater Manchester Police's Tactical Dog Unit attended the scene. The Manchester Evening News understands a knife was found in the street and seized.

One man suffered minor injuries, a spokesperson for GMP said. A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

A 25-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and possession of a controlled Class A drug - believed to be cocaine. In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At approximately 1am on Saturday 24 February 2024, police were called to reports of a disturbance on Railway Street in Dukinfield, Tameside where a group of males were reported to be fighting.

"One man sustained minor injuries which were thankfully not life-threatening or life-changing. Police attended and a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

"A 25-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and possession of a controlled Class A drug thought to be cocaine."
