Kirk Broadfoot booed by OWN fans as raging Morton punters hound defender but pundit offers saving grace

Morton defender Kirk Broadfoot couldn't escape the ire of his own fans after the Ton suffered a drab first half against Dunfermline.

Cappielow was the scene of Friday night Scottish Championship football as James McPake's men looked to get over three straight defeats with a battle against Dougie Imrie and Co. And it took just 30 seconds for former Celtic starlet Owen Moffat to put the Ton to the sword, before adding a second by the time the clock struck seven minutes in Greenock. It drew a raging reaction from the always-vocal Cowshed stand who proceeded to boo the former Rangers defender when touching the ball in the aftermath.

Punters noticed the heavy criticism being levied at the 39-year-old on social media, but Scotland hero James McFadden spotted a key moment that offers the full back salvation. Broadfoot was criticised for being at fault for the opening goal, but the pundit believes his Morton team mates could and should have done more.

He told BBC Sportscene: "As the goal happens you're looking at Broadfoot, he can't turn quick enough because it's a poor clearance. Full credit to Alex Jakubiak because he realises if he gets his body in front of Broadfoot, there's very little he can do but head it when it comes in to his path.

"When it comes to Callum Waters, clear it with your right foot. When you slide with your left you get very little purchase.

"If he goes and clears that with his right, you've got a chance of hitting out straight for a throw-in. Then you have the chance to defend it."
