Matt O'Riley has Celtic big bucks potential but pundit fails to shake summer 'fear' over shining star

Celtic have already knocked back one bid for his services - but the pundits reckon they'll be unable to stop Matt O'Riley from leaving next summer.

The midfielder has been a shining light since joining from MK Dons in January 2022 and has stepped his game up this term. He's the Premiership's joint-top scorer with six goals from midfield and has made his full international debut for Denmark, with eyes now on playing at Euro 2024. He is one of Brendan Rodgers' top assets and Celtic rejected a £10m bid from Leeds United for his services in August.

But with his performance levels soaring and potential on full display, clubs will be aware of his talent, according to former Hoops defender Mark Wilson. And the pundit, when asked if he thought O'Riley would still be in green and white at the start of next season, admitted he couldn't see it but that the technician would only go for a big fee. He said: "I think there is a good chance that he will go. I say that as Celtic knocked back a substantial bid this summer - £10m. Now he's a full international and on the back of the six months he's had from summer to now, you see him getting better.

"I just think someone will recognise that, I think people will already have recognised that. It will take a big bid and I think it will be a lot of money. But my fear is Matt O'Riley won't be at Celtic at the start of next season."

Fellow pundit Gordon Dalziel had similar views, but spotted a Rodgers quirk that has elevated O'Riley's game. He added: "It is a compliment and it's a compliment to Brendan Rodgers as well.
