Kingsway in Swansea closed due to fire - live updates

A busy road in Swansea was closed following a fire incident in the area. South Wales Police and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called to the scene of the incident in Kingsway at Swansea city centre.

The road was closed between The Dragon Hotel to St Helen Road roundabout, the police force confirmed. The road was expected to be closed for some time, while, motorists were advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes for their journey.

AA traffic map showed there was slow traffic in the neighbouring areas. In another update, a spokesperson for South Wales Police confirmed that the affected building was on Oxford Street. Their update read: "The road has been closed due to a fire in a building on Oxford Street."

Meanwhile, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews from Swansea West, Morriston, Port Talbot, Swansea Central, Swansea West, Llanelli and Carmarthen fire stations were called to deal with the building fire. Their statement read: "Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Swansea West, Morriston, Port Talbot, Swansea Central, Swansea West, Llanelli and Carmarthen Fire Stations are currently in attendance at an incident along the Kingsway in Swansea City Centre.

"Crews are responding to a property fire. The road is currently closed between The Dragon Hotel to St Helen’s Road roundabout and is expected to remain closed for some time. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes for journeys."

At around 9.45am, a spokesperson for the fire and rescue service confirmed that the fire was now out. At around 10.10am, it was confirmed that the road was also reopened but there was queuing traffic in the area. Traffic
