Kieran Devlin shares exciting news from Celtic sources with chiefs now 'rethinking' one decision

The Athletic‘s Celtic correspondent Kieran Devlin has revealed that the club are ‘rethinking’ their approach regarding youngsters.

Over the past three seasons, the Hoops have lost numerous young talents. Back in 2019/20, Liam Morrison and Barry Hepburn joined German giants Bayern Munich and Josh Adam left for Manchester City.

Last year, Liam Hughes joined Liverpool, Vincent Angelini penned terms with Watford, Leo Hjelde moved to Leeds United and Cameron Harper jetted off to link up with New York Red Bulls.

We have seen recently that Ben Doak is attracting interest from both Chelsea and Liverpool, with Ange Postecoglou handing him a place in the matchday squad and two cameo appearances from the bench.

Devlin ran a story on The Athletic on Tuesday, looking mainly at Doak. Within his report, he relayed claims from sources close to the club who believe that the Hoops are ‘rethinking’ how to organise their young players.

Celtic are planning to look at each player’s potential pathway into the first team and will now communicate those with the players so that they feel more involved when it comes to their early Parkhead careers.

By putting their reported plans into place, it could help the Hoops to keep some of their top young talent in Glasgow. That may well start with Doak, who has been described as the best of Celtic’s 2005 academy players from all ages.

Should the 16-year-old agree professional terms, you’d expect that it would give other youngsters the same hope to follow in his footsteps, which over time may benefit the first team massively.
