Radrizzani and 49ers now set for huge Bielsa U-turn as Phil Hay drops news from Leeds sources
Marcelo Bielsa is likely to leave Leeds United following the club’s 4-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday, Phil Hay has reported.
The Whites have struggled in recent weeks, although reports in recent weeks made no suggestion that the Argentine could depart before the end of the season.
The likes of Jesse Marsch, Ernesto Valverde and Carlos Cobearan were all name-checked with interest from Leeds in the summer, should Bielsa decide to call time on his Elland Road career.
However, it seems as if the decision over Bielsa’s future has been made by Andrea Radrizzani and the 49ers, with Leeds now just two points off safety.
Hay and David Ornstein shared a story on The Athletic following the 4-0 defeat on Saturday lunchtime.
They were informed by sources that Bielsa’s position at Leeds had been under consideration following the 6-0 defeat at Liverpool during the week.
It is now increasingly likely that the 66-year-old will leave his position as head coach, with talkSPORT even suggesting he has already departed before any official announcement from the club.
Marsch now looks set to be the man to come in and take over with 12 games remaining, a call which seems to be a huge gamble by the board.
Bielsa’s side have been leaking goals this month, but you could argue this is his first woeful spell as Leeds boss and he has earned the chance to turn things around.
He has also been without three key players in recent months in Liam Cooper, Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford, and if Marsch fails to lead the club to safety, you’d expect that the board would get the brunt of criticism from Leeds supporters after their apparent U-turn on Bielsa’s tenure.
