Key Peterborough figure addresses speculation involving Sheffield Wednesday & Birmingham target

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony insists they have no interest in signing Hull City’s Mallik Wilks.

Absolutely No interest. A name that wasn't brought up or mentioned in any recruitment meetings as good as a player he is. Good luck to him. https://t.co/SjqtEwqf6R

The forward is expected to leave the Tigers this summer after falling out of favour under Shota Arveladze and he has been linked with a host of clubs, including the Posh, Birmingham City and most recently Sheffield Wednesday.

However, addressing the rumour on Twitter, MacAnthony made it clear that they are not pursuing the 23-year-old.

“Absolutely no interest. A name that wasn’t brought up or mentioned in any recruitment meetings as good as a player he is. Good luck to him.”

Had Peterborough been keen, that would have seen the player reunite with Grant McCann, with the Northern Irishman getting the best out of Wilks during the 20/21 campaign where the Tigers won promotion from League One and Wilks scored 19 goals.

Hull recently triggered a one-year extension in Wilks’ contract, which means he is set to stay with the club until 2023, so a fee will need to be agreed with the Championship side in the window.

The verdict

A move to Peterborough would’ve appeared to be a good fit for Wilks as McCann knows what he’s like as a player and a person and could’ve got him firing again.

But, it’s obviously not going to happen, with MacAnthony’s message making it clear that they will not be signing him.

So, for the likes of Blues and Sheffield Wednesday, it’s good news, as it means there is one less club in the race to land Wilks, who is surely going to be on the move in the coming weeks.
