Kevin Van Veen: Motherwell deserved win in cagey clash at Ross County

Motherwell hero Kevin Van Veen admits there wasn't much between the teams, but was pleased with his winner against Ross County at the Global Energy Stadium.

The Dutchman climbed off the bench in 64 minutes and within four minutes had won a penalty for a foul by defender Alex Iacovitti, which he slotted home for his 11th goal of the season.

That put Motherwell back into the race for two available European slots, though it's likely to depend on results against Hearts at home on Wednesday and their trip to champions-elect Celtic on Saturday, and those of rivals Ross County and Dundee United.

Motherwell currently lie fifth in the table, two points ahead of County and one behind United, who travel to Rangers later today.

A jubilant Van Veen told Motherwell's website: "It was a good three points, obviously, in the end.

"There wasn't much in the game, the team was playing defensively very well and and we couldn't create really more chances, but I came on, nicked the penalty and obviously scored it.

"It was a good feeling for us, it was important for us, and to be fair we deserved it, for the efforts.

"Happy days, and on to Wednesday, now."
