Ross Stewart Wembley heroics earn Ross County five figure payday as Sunderland star heading back to the Championship

Ross Stewart's heroics for Sunderland are set to land Ross County a five figure fee.

The towering hitman inspired a promotion charge in the north east of England and he fired in their second goal against Wycombe to send them back into the Championship.

Stewart signed for Sunderland from County last January and the Staggies are set to pocket some cash.

There was an additional promotion clause in the deal that took him to Sunderland for an initial six figure fee.

And it looks set to be worth significantly more after he helped fire them back into England's second tier.

Former County bosses Stuart Kettlewell and Steven Ferguson took a chance on Stewart when they bought him from St Mirren reserves for just £20,000 in 2018.

They turned him into a first-team regular and since then he has moved on to Sunderland he has been a big player with 26 goals in their promotion season.

Stewart whose remarkable rise from the juniors was capped when he won his first Scotland call-up against Poland and Austria earlier this year.
