Kevin Campbell predicts Konsa could leave Villa
Ezri Konsa has an uncertain future at Aston Villa, with Football Insider revealing in February that Steven Gerrard will listen to offers for the 24-year-old this summer.
Konsa has been a regular alongside Tyrone Mings at centre-back and was knocking on the door of the England national team, but it appears he could now be sold for the right price.
Reports suggest Gerrard isn’t happy with Konsa’s inconsistency and doesn’t feel he can rely on him at the back, but it would be strange seeing the 24-year-old sold before Kortney Hause given his value to the side.
Villa signed Konsa from Brentford in 2019 and he’s gone on to make 92 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals. The former England U21 international played in 36 of Villa’s 38 Premier League games last season and has featured in 22 of their 25 league outings this campaign.
Kevin Campbell doesn’t get why Gerrard would axe Konsa, telling Football Insider: “Konsa has done really well for Aston Villa. He’s been a revelation since they’ve got back into the Premier League. He has a long-term contract so I’m sure he’s very happy where he is.
“I’m sure a lot of teams would be interested in him if he was to be made available. But he’s under contract until 2026 so Villa don’t have to do nothing if they don’t want to. He is their player. The question is, does the manager want to change him?
“That is the only way I can see him leaving. I think he’s done really well but perhaps Steven Gerrard has his eye on someone else or a replacement. That would be the only reason for him to leave Aston Villa.”
