Ollie Watkins prediction made as Steven Gerrard told to make 'valuable' Aston Villa transfer call

Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell thinks Aston Villa should attempt to sign Luis Suarez this summer.

The Atletico Madrid forward is set to leave the La Liga club this summer on a free transfer as his contract will expire at the end of the season. Villa have been credited with an interest in the striker with his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard the head coach at Villa Park.

Suarez has admitted he wants to spend one more season in Europe after he leaves Atletico in a few months time. Though, while Villa have reportedly expressed an interest in the 35-year-old, Gerrard's already has two top quality forwards in his squad, in Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings, while young Cameron Archer will return from loan for pre-season, too.

Yet ex-Arsenal striker Campbell claims the possible arrival of Suarez could be invaluable for Villa strike and England international Watkins. He told Football Insider: "That could be a really good, smart piece of business. Suarez is someone who can show people the way. It’s so important to have a point of reference with experience.

"Ollie Watkins is a good striker, he’s got Danny Ings alongside him – but having someone else with that elite level experience will be so valuable. It could really help and enhance Watkins’ game. I think someone like Suarez coming in could push him to the next level that Gerrard wants from him."

Suarez has so far made 28 appearances for Atletico this season, missing just one league game under Diego Simone. He has also scored nine goals and made three assists desire entering the twilight years of his glittering career.
