Kenny Dalglish jumps in to bust Celtic myth about Ange and predicts Rangers feel ready to 'take title away'

Former Celtic star Kenny Dalglish reckons Brendan Rodgers will be motivated to make a sizeable impact in the Champions League upon his return to Parkhead.

The Scottish football icon has also gone to bat for Ange Postecoglou and reckons a lack of good fortune stopped the now Tottenham Hotspur boss from boasting a better continental record. And now Dalglish is convinced Rodgers will be hell-bent on turning Parkhead into a fortress once more when the strains of Zadok The Priest reverberate around Glasgow's east end in the autumn.

The 72-year-old has given the return of Rodgers his blessing ahead of Monday's official announcement. Speaking to the Sunday Post, he said: "I said last week Celtic should be looking for someone similar to Ange in terms of the style of football, and that's why I can see the logic in this move. Brendan will look to be very successful again and want to make an impact in the Champions League.

"In his last stint at Parkhead, results in Europe weren't too favourable and that will be something he will look to improve. Ange also had some disappointing nights with the elite clubs, but Celtic played some wonderful stuff and were unlucky not to score a number of goals. So, all eyes will be on Celtic to see how this all works out. Interesting times ahead, that is for sure."

But Dalglish senses a title fight for the ages even when Rodgers' return is rubber-stamped. The legendary football figure is an admirer of Michael Beale and reckons within Rangers there is real belief a title triumph is in the offing. He added: "Michael will be pleased with the early moves and he will feel they are ready to really challenge, and, ultimately, take the title away from Celtic.
