Kenny Dalglish names Rangers wildcard as candidate to test out Celtic 'disruption' after Ange exit

Kenny Dalglish reckons Kemar Roofe could be like a new signing for Michael Beale as he continues his hunt for more Rangers firepower.

And the Scotland legend admitted the Light Blues must be ready to pounce on any “disruption” at his old club Celtic with the managerial change at Parkhead. Beale has signed Sam Lammers but is looking to bolster his attacking options as they close in on Cyriel Dessers and with Feyenoord star Danilo also still a target.

Dalglish, though, says Roofe could have a big part to play if he can finally overcome the injury issues that have plagued his Ibrox career. The 72-year-old, writing in his Sunday Post column, said: “The first Old Firm game of the season is at Ibrox on September 3 and it’s vital for Rangers to win that if they are to put a proper marker down. Rangers know that if they hand Celtic anything, the champions are unlikely not to take advantage.

“A big bonus could be if Kemar Roofe can get a solid pre-season under his belt and pus his way into the team. There is no doubt he is a quality player and knows his way to goal. Injuries have blighted his Rangers career in the past two years but he has so much to offer. I believe he was in Qatar for extra rehab sessions. I hope it all pays off for him. I’m sure Michael will be delighted if it does.

“But he is still looking for another striker to come in and he is quite right to do so. Listen, you can never have enough goalscorer to choose from. But they do not grow on trees and they most certainly do not come cheaply. It will be interesting to see how Rangers get on in this department.
