Kenneth Vargas Hearts transfer fee agreed as Costa Rican's Tynecastle arrival timeline laid out

A transfer fee for Kenneth Vargas has been agreed between Hearts and Herediano.

Reports in Costa Rica claimed that the 21-year-old forward had agreed terms with the Jambos, but how much they would pay to land him was still to be thrashed out. Now Costa Rican journalist Kevin Jimenez reports that the two clubs have reached the magic number, thought to be worth around £250,000 plus add ons. Jimenez will now apply for a UK visa, which will allow him to travel to Edinburgh and complete his move to the Scottish capital. All going to plan, that could happen by the end of the week.

Vargas would become Steven Naismith’s fourth signing of the summer. The pacey front man, who can play through the middle or out wide, is seen as an ideal replacement for Josh Ginnelly, who joined Swansea City after leaving Gorgie when his contract expired in the summer.

Michael McGovern, Frankie Kent and Calem Nieuwenhof are the other new faces. Hearts complete their pre season preparations on Sunday at home to Leeds United before kicking off their Premiership campaign away to St Johnstone. They’ll then face either Rosenborg or Crusaders in the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.
