Kelle Roos reveals Aberdeen sitdown with Theo Snelders as he vows to echo legend by WINNING Scottish Cup

Kelle Roos wants to follow in the footsteps of fellow Dutch keeper Theo Snelders and lift the Scottish Cup with Aberdeen.

Snelders was a key man in the last Dons team that landed the famous old trophy in 1990. The current Aberdeen No.1 asked long-serving kitman Jim Warrender to arrange a meeting with Snelders the last time he was in Scotland. Barry Robson’s side will take what they hope will be the first step when they travel away to Clyde, and Roos said: “I met Theo here. He’s friends with Jim the kitman so I asked him to introduce me.

“He was here with his sons and some of his cousins. They were all very Dutch – very tall like me. Theo’s resumé at this club speaks for itself. I am well aware of what he did here so it was nice to meet him and chat. It would be brilliant to follow in his footsteps and win a cup."

It is so long since Aberdeen won the Scottish Cup that Roos wasn’t born until two years later. The keeper did come close to lifting the Viaplay Cup but lost to Rangers. That final disappointment will still be within the Dons squad when they kick off their Scottish Cup assault.

He added: “It’s a long time ago and we know what it means here, so it works as fuel for us that we had a little sniff of maybe winning something last month. A lot of players, if they didn’t already, now realise how important it is to win things.

“When you are in the cups it’s about winning. I don’t see the point of playing in a final if you don’t win. Getting there might be nice for some people but for me, I play to win. So first we have to beat Clyde because if we don’t we don’t have the right to speak about anything else. I came here from Derby, a club that had the chance to win promotion, we had two finals to get to the Premier League.
