Keane Lewis-Potter has England impact as Hull City bosses watch on
Keane Lewis-Potter's final appearance of a long season ended in defeat for England's Under-21s at Huddersfield Town's John Smith's Stadium, bringing an end to their long unbeaten run as Slovenia grabbed a deserved 2-1 victory in West Yorkshire, though the Hull City man did grab an assist in the closing stages.
Lee Carsley's side were already qualified for next summer's European Championships in Georgia and Romania and in truth, this display looked like a game too far almost 12 months after many of these players started the campaign. City ace Lewis-Potter, who scored inside two minutes in the 5-0 win over Kosovo on Friday night was back on the bench with the head coach making a host of changes, particularly pivotal was the absence of Everton's Anthony Gordon
City ace Lewis-Potter had to wait until the 74th minute to get onto the pitch by which point a distinctly below-par England were 2-0 down thanks to a Djed Spence own goal inside a minute and a lovely curling header in the second half from Mark Zabukovnik. The 21-year-old played in Archer, who turned and fired past the goalkeeper, but the hosts couldn't find an equaliser in five minutes of added time.
Despite his fine full debut on Friday night in Kosovo, Lewis-Potter was again named on the bench by boss Lee Carsley who opted to hand starts to Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Morgan Gibbs-White and Manchester United's James Garner, while there were recalls for Flo Balogun and Emile Smith-Rowe on his former stomping ground, though given the nature of their displays, he may have been better sticking with the same XI that performed so well in Prishtina.
England found themselves behind inside a minute when Djed Spence - booed by his home supporters for his part in Nottingham
