Karl Robinson makes Oxford United transfer admission involving Blackpool

The Blackpool loanee was recalled by his parent club from the U’s last month and is now settling in well back at Bloomfield Road having previously impressed for the Sky Bet League One side.

Oxford were of course keen to keep the centre back for the duration of the campaign, so it would have come as a big surprise when the player was recalled during the transfer window just gone.

Now Robinson has had his say on the move from Blackpool as he fired in what could be taken as something of a cheeky dig at the Championship club:

“He means a lot to us. The bitterness of the transfer window is clearly evident. It’s frustrating, because he’s probably my player of the year up to this point.”

Thorniley made 25 appearances for Oxford across all competitions before he returned to the North West and will be duly missed by his loan club’s supporters.

He is however set to see his contract with the Seasiders expire come the end of the season, meaning that a return to the U’s could well be on the cards if he departs Blackpool as expected.

The Verdict

You can ask many people in football and many will reply to you that they have come to expect this sort of thing from Robinson over the years.

He has never been a manager to mince his words and quite often gets himself into trouble because he opens his mouth too often.

Clearly he is annoyed that Blackpool took Thorniley back but at the same time he is still their player, so they are free to do as they please.

Robinson needs to move on from this saga and focus on getting his side promoted.
