Ciaron Brown starts: The predicted Oxford United XI to play Crewe on Tuesday night

Oxford United made the leap to fourth place in League One, on goal difference, with a majestic 4-0 win at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

Karl Robinson switched to a back three with great effect and the Yellows broke the deadlock early before establishing a firm grip on proceedings in South London.

A first half brace from Matty Taylor made things comfortable going into half time before Sam Baldock and Cameron Brannagan put some gloss on the scoreline to see Oxford climb to fourth as Sunderland fell out of the top six.

Steve Seddon, bench, and Billy Bodin, nowhere, did not keep their place, the latter due to injury, from the club’s 3-2 defeat to Bolton Wanderers and may find it difficult to force their way back in after such a good performance on their travels.

Yellows travel to a Crewe Alexandra side who have lost their last six on the bounce in hoping to push themselves closer to the automatic promotion conversation on Tuesday evening.

Here, we are predicting two changes from the side that beat Charlton to line-up at Gresty Road…

Sam Winnall replaces Baldock, with it unclear if the 32-year-old has the fitness to handle the quick turnaround, and Ciaron Brown comes in for Luke McNally which was a 56th minute substitution at The Valley.

Brown has shown himself as a competent left sided centre back at Cardiff City in recent years and therefore provides a luxury option to Robinson from the fringes.

The trip to Crewe provides a huge opportunity for Oxford to begin cementing a position in the top six, and to avoid needing to reproduce the late dash they completed last season.
