Jurgen Klopp's declaration that Robert Lewandowski is the best player he's ever coached has emerged after Liverpool were tipped for a sensational transfer swoop.
The Bayern Munich striker wants to leave the Allianz Arena during the summer transfer window, proclaiming that his story with the German giants is "over." Lewandowski is now publicly seeking a new challenge, one which can affirm his legacy as one of the greatest forwards of his generation.
But while cash-strapped Barcelona scramble to find the necessary funds to buy the 33-year-old - valued upwards of £25million by Bayern - the Reds have been thrust into the conversation by Poland manager Czeslaw Michniewicz, who'd "like to see" Lewandowski firing in front of the Kop End.
"I'm a supporter of the club," Michniewicz added ahead of his side's gritty 2-1 win against Wales in the Nations League on Wednesday, replenishing excitement on Merseyside following their agonising Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.
As Klopp and Liverpool's sporting director, Julian Ward, look to the future and bid to mount another assault on European football next season, the Reds boss' admiration for Lewandowski has done the rounds.
