Junior Hoilett in Aberdeen FC transfer talks as Neil Warnock eyes reunion with Canada international

Neil Warnock is pushing to bring Junior Hoilett to Aberdeen.

The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving MLS franchise Vancouver Whitecaps and can join the reds immediately. Hoilett is in talks over a possible short-term switch to Pittodrie to link up with Warnock once again. Warnock has worked with Canadian international Hoilett - who has 62 caps - previously at Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City. If a deal can be done in time, Hoillett could potentially be in the squad to face Hibs on Saturday.

He has also turned out for Blackburn Rovers and Reading before he moved back his homeland Canada last year. The Dons manager has already claimed to have inherited a squad with limited options in certain areas. Wide players is an area where they are light and could do with strengthening, while the 75-year-old admits he has too many central midfielders. That's seen him play Graeme Shinnie, Jamie McGrath, Connor Barron and Dante Polvara in an unorthodox midfield four.

Warnock is still searching for this first league win since replacing Barry Robson in the north east. A 1-0 defeat at Ibrox was followed by a 2-0 victory over League Two outfit Bonnyrigg Rose in the Scottish Cup. He then faced an almighty fan backlash with Motherwell racing into 3-0 lead inside 20 minutes at Pittodrie on Wednesday night.

However, a Duk double either side of Stefan Gartenmann's effort rescued an unlikely point for the hosts. They remain ninth in the table and have a fight on their hands to make the top six.
