Julianna Pena, Amanda Nunes rematch to headline UFC 277 in Dallas

The UFC will run back one of the most shocking fights in its entire history.

A bantamweight title rematch between Julianna Peña and Amanda Nunes will headline UFC 277 on July 30 in Dallas, officials announced on Saturday. The pay-per-view event will take place inside American Airlines Arena and air on ESPN+.

Peña (11-4) took the 135-pound title from Nunes (21-5) as a massive underdog at UFC 269 in December. Peña, of Spokane, Washington, actually hurt the feared knockout artist on the feet before submitting her on the ground.

The finish came via rear-naked choke at 3:26 of the second round. UFC president Dana White called it one of the biggest upsets in the sport's history, on par with Matt Serra's win over Georges St-Pierre in 2007.

Nunes, of Brazil, later told ESPN she was dealing with multiple knee injuries prior to the December bout. It was her first loss since 2014, and ended her reign as bantamweight champion at four defenses. She is still the UFC featherweight champion, and widely considered the best female fighter of all time.

Peña and Nunes went on to serve as coaches on the current season of The Ultimate Fighter.

UFC 277 will see two title fights. In addition to the main event, an interim flyweight bout between Brandon Moreno and Kai Kara-France will serve as the co-main.
