Journalists say ‘strong’ Digne was ‘immaculate’ v Palace

Aston Villa drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon and Lucas Digne was one of many players who impressed against the Eagles. The 28-year-old started at left-back with Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa and Matty Cash for company and was outstanding over the 90 minutes.

No Villa player created more chances, won more aerial duels, had more touches, whipped in more crosses or made more interceptions than Digne on the day. The French international assisted Villa’s opening goal too, whipping in a brilliant cross for Ollie Watkins to convert from close range.

Ashley Preece of Birmingham Live gave Digne a player rating of 8/10 and said he delivered a ‘strong’ showing at the back. Preece called his passing ‘near-immaculate’ and said he was the ‘star man’ at Villa Park.

Cole Pettem of 7500 to Holte gave the 28-year-old a player rating of 8/10 and believes he delivered his best performance since joining Villa. Pettem said Digne was effective at both ends and nearly got on the scoresheet himself.

Max Parsons of 90min gave a player rating of 7/10, saying he produced the good offensively on occasion. Against Palace, Digne had 83 touches, won two aerial duels, completed 85.2% of his 54 passes, created three chances, had one shot which hit the target, whipped in five crosses with 20% finding a teammate, made two interceptions and had four clearances.
