What Lucas Digne told Boubacar Kamara about Aston Villa ahead of transfer

Aston Villa full-back Lucas Digne has revealed a phone conversation he had with Boubacar Kamara before the midfielder decided to sign for Aston Villa.

The Frenchman signed a five-year contract with Villa ahead of next season and will join the squad on the expiry of his deal with Marseille at the end of this month. Villa beat off competition from a number of clubs for the 22-year-old.

Now, it seems like Steven Gerrard may have Digne to thank for convincing Kamara to choose Villa. The two are currently working together with the French national team, where Kamara will be hoping to make his international debut.

After completing his move to Villa, Kamara outlined how he spoke to Digne over a potential move. And it’s a conversation that has now been spoken about by Digne.

"He phoned and asked me about Villa, and I was happy to be able to tell him a lot of good things about the club - and about the manager,” Digne said peaking to FootballTransfers .“I just said the truth to him: 'If you come, you will enjoy every single minute in Premier League - and you will develop and enjoy yourself with the style of football at Villa, with the way the manager is - and things like that'.”

Kamara was Villa’s second signing of the summer after the permanent capture of Philippe Coutinho. Steven Gerrard has moved quickly in the transfer window by also completing the signing of Diego Carlos.

The centre-back’s transfer from Spanish side Sevilla was officially confirmed this week. It is reported that he will cost Villa a fee of around £26 million, with his move to Villa Park coming after strong interest from Newcastle in the player during the January transfer window.
