Journalist makes "behind-the-scenes" Liam Cooper claim at Leeds United

Liam Cooper has become a “real leader” at Leeds United, according to insider Dean Jones.

The 6 foot 2 centre-back has had a frustrating campaign at Elland Road, but Jones still thinks that he offers plenty to the team off the pitch even when he is unavailable to play.

Cooper started Leeds’ first 15 top-flight matches this term, and was handed the captain’s armband for each fixture.

However, disaster struck in early December when he was replaced in the 15th minute against Brentford after picking up a hamstring injury.

It turned out to be a serious setback as he has not played since, missing 15 league games in the process.

He was back on the bench for the team’s latest outing, though, as Jesse Marsch’s men overturned a two-goal deficit to edge past Wolves 3-2.

Cooper has not been able to help out on the pitch for over three months, but Jones has insisted that he plays an important role in the dressing room.

Speaking about the Scotland international to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “I don’t think you can underestimate the impact he has behind-the-scenes as well. He is a real leader among those players.”

He could well be.

Leeds have struggled badly at times in Cooper’s absence. They conceded 20 goals in just five league matches in February, and they did not start March much better as they shipped four goals in their opening two fixtures.

Under Marsch, Leeds have managed to pick up two dramatic late wins this month to put some breathing space between themselves and the bottom three, but they are not safe yet by any means.
