Journalist hints Leeds trio may face retraining in Marsch shake-up at Thorp Arch

Journalist Beren Cross has claimed a number of Leeds United players may need retraining following the appointment of Jesse Marsch.

According to the Leeds Live reporter, a lot of the wide play from Marsch’s previous sides has come from the full-back and wing-back positions.

This has left Cross suggesting the likes of Raphinha, Jack Harrison and Daniel James may need to undergo some further training under the American to fit his system.

During his time at RB Leipzig, the 48-year-old did play a variety of formations, but with Patrick Bamford still out through injury, he may not look to make major changes just yet at Elland Road.

However, he did show during his time at RB Salzburg he likes to play with a two-man strikeforce, which would likely not be possible just yet at Leeds due to injuries.

Cross wrote for Leeds Live: “One look at the squad will show him the number of wingers he has at his disposal, but it seems most of the width in his formations have come from his full-backs or wing-backs.”

“Raphinha, Daniel James and Jack Harrison may be facing some retraining.”

TIF Thoughts on Cross’ comments…

This may come as a surprise to some given only one of the three players has any experience playing under such a system in Harrison, who has himself only rarely played in the left-back position during his career.

And that came earlier this season against Brentford, when he played on the left side of the defence for 75 minutes as a result of injuries in the side (via Transfermarkt).

However, we do question whether a potential transition would hinder Raphinha’s production in front of goal, given he has been the main source of goals for the Whites this season.
