"Even more so" – Journalist hints Jesse Marsch attempting to sign CL ace for Leeds is guaranteed

Leeds United will continue to target Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson in the summer window, especially now Jesse Marsch is in charge, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The west Yorkshire outfit attempted to prise the 21-year-old away from the Austrian champions during the winter but were ultimately unsuccessful in their attempts.

According to The Athletic, Leeds saw a £15 million bid rejected for Aaronson as they attempted to bolster their attacking options at the halfway point of the season.

The report states that Salzburg were desperate not to lose such an important player ahead of their Champions League last-16 clash with Bayern Munich, while RB Leipzig and AC Milan were also credited with an interest.

Sky Sports then claimed that the Whites increased their offer to £20m for Aaronson, although that offer still fell well short of his reported £30m price tag, meaning he stayed put at the Red Bull Arena.

However, Leeds’s chances of snapping up the USA international may have received a significant boost following Marsch’s arrival as Marcelo Bielsa’s successor at the start of March.

The 48-year-old tactician handed Aaronson 25 appearances during their time together at Salzburg, with the engine room operator scoring seven goals and providing five assists under his compatriot’s tutelage.

A report in The Athletic last month stated that Aaronson remains a target for the Elland Road side, and they’ll surely be hoping Marsch’s presence can work in their favour.

O’Rourke believes Aaronson will be a ‘target again’ when the market reopens following the conclusion of the current campaign.
