Jota sends Celtic transfer sleuths into overdrive with Benfica 'farewell' as final contract hurdle cleared

Star man Jota looks to be on the verge of completing his permanent switch to Celtic in the coming days - and fans have been desperate to piece together a timeline for his Parkhead unveiling.

And some fans think they have cracked it after images of the winger back at parent club Benfica emerged on social media, in what some fans insist was his final farewell. The 23-year-old came through the ranks at the Portuguese giants and has been a part of the club since 2007, and was snapped going back to his roots with the under-10 side at the club.

However, he was a smash hit during his season-long loan at Celtic Park and it appears he will finally be saying goodbye to the Lisbon giants in the coming days with the clubs already agreeing a £6.5m permanent deal. It remains to be seen if eagle-eyed supporters will be proven right over the send off, but the final details of the deal appear to have been ironed out behind the scenes.

Portuguese outlet A Bola state that terms have now been agreed between the player and Celtic with the club set for an official unveiling when he returns from his trips abroad.

He will join Cameron Carter-Vickers in committing his long-term future to the club, after the USA international penned a four-year deal after his own eye-catching loan stint in Glasgow's east end.

Jota racked up 10 goals and 10 assists domestically - and was a key player in their charge to a title and League Cup double.

Ange Postecoglou will no doubt see him as a key player for keeping the title at Celtic Park, as well as vital to the Champions League group stage surge next season.
