Jota in Saudi renaissance mission as Celtic hero defies 'crazy coach' to spin Al Ittihad heads amid transfer buzz

Jota has put down a marker for his Al Ittihad future by impressing new boss Marcelo Gallardo and the Tigers fanbase in AFC Champions League action.

The winger has had a torrid time in Saudi Arabia since leaving Celtic in a blockbuster £25m move in the summer, and wasn't registered by boss Nuno Espirito Santo to play in Saudi Pro League matches. Al Ittihad are in Club World Cup action next week and kick the tournament off against Auckland City FC, with the winner facing Al Ahly in the next round. The Celtic hero dazzled with flicks and tricks during the 83-minute showing in the cup, with the media purring over him, Kooora hailing him "the star of Al-Ittihad." Btolat claimed "Jota leads Al-Ittihad to victory over Sepahan" and Goal Saudi Arabia simply hailed " Jota's wonderful goal celebration."

Fans have been left impressed with his determination too. One said "Jota suffered psychologically with Al-Ittihad a lot, and the player has a desire for him to come out and we win." Another claimed "the player was wronged by the crazy coach, but I expect Jota to have a say in the World Cup."

"Jota, despite the interruption, had a clear impact in this match" was the cry of one fan, with Gallardo keen to keep everyone fit for the major clashes ahead. He said: "I would like all the players to be available, and to arrive at the World Cup with a complete roster. In these matches before the World Cup, I wanted the team to be complete, but unfortunately we were not
