Josh McGuire to make Warrington move in 2023

Warrington have confirmed the signing of Josh McGuire from the 2023 season on a two-year deal.

The forward will make the switch from St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL.

McGuire, 32, has represented Queensland on 14 occasions and has won eight caps for Australia.

He was part of the Kangaroo’s World Cup winning side in 2017 and also has Test experience with Samoa.

The utility player has made 252 NRL appearances to date, having also featured for Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys.

He becomes the club’s fourth prop signing for 2023 alongside Paul Vaughan, Sam Kasiano and Gil Dudson.

McGuire said: “The opportunity to come over and play for Warrington is one I’m really excited about.

“It’s always been in the back of my mind to come over and play in this part of the world during my career. I’m a huge footy nut. I’ve been watching Super League for a long time and I’m a big fan of the English game. I think it can really suit me.

“I’m looking forward to getting over, wearing the primrose and blue and doing something special with this group.

“With the new additions, the pack that’s building there and the young guys coming through I’m very excited to be part of the squad for next year.”

Head coach Daryl Powell added: “Josh is a tough, aggressive forward and I see a lot of strong leadership in his game.

“From my conversations with him he’s very passionate about coming over here for the right reasons.

“He’s had a fantastic career. He’s an Australian international who has played at the highest level. We want a big, tough pack that can go out there and dominate every other pack in the competition which is what I believe we’ve put in place for next season with our recruitment.”
