Jose Mourinho: When football legend played as a goalkeeper during charity match

Jose Mourinho is one of the greatest football managers of all-time.

Mourinho has won the league title in four different countries (Portugal, England, Italy and Spain).

He’s also a two-time Champions League winner, having triumphed with Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010.

But, despite being such a talented manager, Mourinho didn’t have much success as a player.

Mourinho was a midfielder who played for a handful of Portuguese clubs, including Rio Ave and Belenenses.

But he didn’t have what it took to succeed at the highest level and hung up his boots at the age of just 23.

Mourinho has played rarely since. But he decided to dust off his boots in a charity game back in 2017.

On September 2, 2017, the Portuguese put on a pair of gloves and went in goal at Game 4 Grenfell.

The match, played at Loftus Road, was designed to raise money for those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.

Mourinho, who was at Manchester United at the time, produced some gold after entering the fray in the 62nd minute.

Mourinho came on with Team Shearer 2-1 up and he immediately punched away a corner.

It didn’t take him long to go full Mourinho as he was booked just three minutes after coming on for time-wasting.

Despite being on a yellow-card, he continued to time-waste, but the referee let him off.

But his attempts to run out the clock failed as Kasabian’s Chris Edwards found a way past Mourinho with 15 minutes remaining.

Of course, Mourinho was absolutely fuming as he berated the officials.

With five minutes remaining, Paul Merson attempted a curler with the outside-of-his-boot.

Despite his effort going well wide, Mourinho dived for the ball anwyay.
