Jose Mourinho 'agrees to take over' at new club following Roma sacking

Jose Mourinho has reportedly agreed verbally to manage Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia. This news comes just days after his departure from Roma, where his side had a disappointing start to the season.

The former Manchester United boss had previously spoken about his interest in managing in the Saudi Pro League, saying he had turned down what he described as the "biggest and craziest offer a coach has ever received" to stay at Roma.

"During the holidays, I received the biggest and craziest offer a coach has ever received in the history of football," Mourinho said back in October. "And I turned it down. I did so because I'd given my word to my players, I'd given my word to the fans and I'd given my word to the club owner."

The rejected offer was rumoured to be a £500,000-a-week deal with Al-Hilal, now managed by Jorge Jesus, and according to Saudi-owned newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, Mourinho is set to take over at Al-Shabab. The report suggests that Mourinho had a Zoom meeting with Al-Shabab's sporting director Domenico Tite, and they reached an agreement for him to become the new manager. If all goes well, Mourinho could be heading to Saudi Arabia in the next few days.

It's said that Mourinho is keen to bring in big names this summer. Al-Shabab, who are 11th in the Saudi Pro League, have stars like Yannick Carrasco and Ever Banega but need a new manager after letting Igor Biscan go.
