Jordan Smith close to Hibs transfer as David Gray looks to add another goalkeeper to his ranks

Hibs are closing in on a deal for ex-Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith. The 29-year-old free agent is close to agreeing a move to Easter Road after leaving Stockport County and will challenge Josef Bursik for the number one jersey in Leith.

Smith came through the academy system at Forest and went on to make 54 top team appearances including 32 in the 2017/18 season in the Championship - before moving to Stockport last summer.

The shotstopper has also spent time on loan at Huddersfield, Mansfield and Barnsley in the EFL. However a move to Stockport last season saw him make only five appearances in the cups and fail to dislodge Ben Hinchcliffe as County went on to win League Two.

Record Sport understands the 6ft keeper is now close to finalising a deal to become David Gray’s fourth signing of the summer at Hibs.

Gray has already added a goalkeeper to his ranks after capturing Bursik on a season-long loan from Club Brugge and the Englishman has gone on to keep three clean sheets in four outings so far. But he will face a fresh challenge in the shape of Smith.

The move could pave the way for Jojo Woollcott to leave Easter Road after failing to nail down a starting spot since his move north of the border last summer.
