Jordan Ayew hints at what Crystal Palace will do differently vs Manchester United

Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew believes his side were too narrow during Tuesday's 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat at Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag's side booked their place in the Carabao Cup fourth round with a commanding win at Old Trafford, their goals coming from Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Anthony Martial. It was a strong performance from a much-changed outfit but life was made relatively easy for them.

Roy Hodgson's men sat deep from kick-off and offered little in the way of an attacking threat, allowing United to dictate the tempo of the match. It was only at 3-0 down when they started to push forward and create chances of their own.

Key to that was the switch to a back-three. And Ayew has suggested they will take that encouragement into Saturday's return to Old Trafford in the Premier League.

“It was really tough. We kept on pushing, we kept on fighting," Ayew told Palace TV. "We changed our shape in the second half and it was a bit better.

“We know they were just better than us tonight and we just need to go back home, recover and get ready for Saturday, because Saturday’s going to be a different game. I think this game has given us more desire and more will to win on Saturday.

“[In the first half] I just felt we were a bit narrow. We wanted to close the middle and they were just hitting diagonals, going wide to the wingers and full-backs and causing us a lot of danger. That was a problem.

“With three at the back [in the second half] it made it a bit easier to go across, but at the end of the day, we still lost.

“We just need to go back home and recover
