Jonny Evans opens up on Leicester City future following Brendan Rodgers' Chelsea comparisons

Jonny Evans would commit to staying at Leicester City beyond the end of his current contract.

The veteran centre-back, who will be 35 when his deal at the King Power Stadium runs out next summer, has been backed by manager Brendan Rodgers to have a career like Chelsea’s Thiago Silva, who is the oldest outfield player in the Premier League player and still performing at the top level.

Rodgers said last month: "I look at Thiago Silva at 37, what a player, so who's to say Jonny can't do that if he's still got that hunger and determination? He's at that level of mentality, top-level thinking, but it's just trying to manage it."

Certainly, Evans sees no reason why he wouldn’t want to extend his stay at the club, which he believing is constantly moving in the right direction. He said: “I’ve been really happy here. There’s nothing about this place that wouldn’t make you want to stay here and play football.”

He added: "It's great. Leicester obviously won the league in 2016 and their name was elevated around the world on a much bigger scale.

"Since then over these last couple of years we've been able to add to that and we're constantly boosting the club's profile. The training ground and the type of players that we've got at the club now is fantastic, it's a great club to be part of."

However, Evans is wary that he is only one serious injury from having to hang up his boots. The Northern Ireland international has had two long spells out of the side since this time last year, first with foot pain, and then with a hamstring injury. Mustering the mental energy to overcome such lengthy periods on the sidelines is becoming more difficult.
