John Kennedy faces potential Celtic exit as Midtjylland eye Ange Postecoglou’s right hand man

Celtic coach John Kennedy has been linked with a shock move to takeover as manager at FC Midtjylland.

According to a discussion on The Transfer Window Podcast from Danish media outlet BT, Kennedy is being ‘investigated’ as a potential option to become the next FC Midtjylland boss following the sacking of Bo Henriksen. The report goes on to claim that Kennedy would be ‘very interested’ in becoming the new head coach of Midtjylland.

Kennedy has been part of Celtic's first-team set-up since the summer of 2014, and has been a faithful servant under Ronny Deila, Brendan Rodgers, Neil Lennon and now Ange Postecoglou but it's not the first time he has been linked with taking a managerial job of his own. The 38-year-old was previously mentioned as a candidate for the Hibs job earlier this year before his former team-mate Shaun Maloney was appointed at Easter Road and the ex-Scotland international was also in the frame for the Ross County job in the summer of 2021.

Henriksen was given his marching orders by Midtjylland after finishing second in the Danish Superliga last season, and the Copenhagen side currently find themselves eighth in the table with just five points from their opening four games of the new campaign. Their dream of qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League is also hanging by a thread following last week's crushing 4-1 defeat to Benfica in the competition's third qualifying round.
