John Hartson warns Atletico strip stunt could 'incite' Celtic fans as he questions silence from UEFA beaks

John Hartson is shocked UEFA beaks are allowing Atletico Madrid to wear their commemorative kit at Celtic Park.

Diego Simeone’s side are in Glasgow to face Celtic in the first part of their Champions League Group E double header. Brendan Rodgers’ side are still seeking their first point of the campaign after defeats to Lazio and Feyenoord. The Spanish team beat the Dutch champions but were denied by a last gasp equaliser from goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, although they sit top on four points.

But Atleti won’t be in their traditional red and white stripes when they emerge from the Parkhead tunnel. They’ll be in red and blue to commemorate the bruising 1974 European Cup clash between the two clubs, which saw three visiting players sent off and Celtic stars who played still seething at Atletico’s antics on the night. And Harston has questioned why the European governing body haven't done their usual and gotten involved.

8 headlines from Celtic training as Brendan Rodgers hits the giggles, a new look emerges plus a warning from Madrid

He told GO Radio: “I’m surprised UEFA are allowing it to be honest. It could incite the fans. They get involved in every other blinking subject. Banning this and fining for that. Now you've got a team wearing a kit to commemorate the dirtiest game in football from 1974. I’m surprised they are allowing it."
