John Cena: WWE legend recalls first words from Vince McMahon

Ahead of his twentieth anniversary later this month, John Cena has revealed the first words Vince McMahon said to him.

Cena is set to return to Monday Night Raw on 27 June to celebrate twenty years since his official debut match in WWE against Kurt Angle. The iconic bout is famous for kicking-off Cena’s WWE career and the ‘Ruthless Aggression’ era in the company.

As part of the celebrations, WWE have shared a video of the 47-year-old rewatching the match and adding some commentary from his own memories of the moment.

During the look back the sixteen-time world champion recalls being introduced to Vince McMahon and the first words the WWE Chairman said to him.

I found out at 2:45 in the afternoon that I’d be wrestling Kurt Angle. I had one meeting with Mr. McMahon before this, and I was pushed into his office and Michael Hayes asked like, ‘What do we do with this?’, and Mr. McMahon’s first sentence to me – it was a short meeting – he said, ‘Cut his f**king hair’, and then I was out of the office.

Cena also goes on to describe the crowd’s reaction to the match, pointing out their disinterest, as they pay more attention to waving and getting the signs on camera than what’s happening in the ring. Noting that at that point he cared more about his moved than what was going on around him.

Little is known on what might be lined-up for Cena on his return appearance, but it’s a good bet we’ll see an interaction between the WWE legend and Theory.

The pair have been taking shots at each other across social media in recent months, with Cena added more fuel to the fire this past week during an interview on TikTok. Citing the US Champion as his favourite current WWE Superstar, but also the star who most needs an Attitude Adjustment.
