John Beaton Rangers vs Celtic appointment is 'unfair' as conspiracy theorists told the REAL victim

Hugh Keevins has called out the SFA for the appointment of John Beaton for Celtic's visit to Rangers - insisting it is "unfair" on the referee.

Beaton will be the man in the middle for Sunday's top of the table Premiership showdown - with the Hampden chiefs making the appointment just days after Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was slapped with a ban for branding him 'incompetent' following defeat to Hearts. Rodgers slammed referee Don Robertson and VAR official Beaton following the clash at Tynecastle after the decision to send off Yang and award a penalty against Tomoki Iwata for handball.

That has sparked criticism from Hoops supporters over the decision to award the whistler the derby blockbuster - while some Rangers fans have also expressed concerns that the noise around the appointment will impact on the whistler. And speaking to Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Keevins reckons the whole debate should have been swerved.

He said: “We’ve had this 48 hours worth of controversy following on from the appointment of the referee. And, I think the appointment was unfair on John Beaton, because people that genuinely believe that John Beaton is appointed to that match because he will definitely favour Rangers over Celtic.

“Now, my response to that would be, why, and this man’s had trouble before, from supporters off the park because of this fixture, why would a man bring all of that down upon his own head? I think that conspiracies about penalties and the referee, that’s why I wish that they had not appointed John Beaton, because it’s unfair on John Beaton.”
