John Beaton continues amid Celtic storm as ref returns to on field duties in Scottish Cup assignment

John Beaton will be back in action to officiate the first Scottish Cup quarter final tie of the weekend - less than seven days after the VAR controversy in Celtic's 2-0 loss to Hearts last Sunday.

In the immediate aftermath of the game, Hoops' boss Brendan Rodgers blasted on-field Dom Robertson, and Beaton who was in control of the video technology, and insisted that their decision making cost his side the game. Rodgers was left fuming after midfielder Yang Hyun-jun was shown a straight red card by VAR for a high boot on Jambos full back Alex Cochrane - a call that the champions have now filed an appeal against. The Irishman was further incensed when the hosts were awarded a penalty for a handball by Tomoki Iwata that allowed Hearts playmaker Jorge Grant to open the scoring.

But despite Rodgers' comments, it is business as normal for Beaton, who will take charge of Aberdeen's clash with Kilmarnock in the early kick-off on Saturday (March 9) afternoon, live on BBC Scotland.

Elsewhere in the Scottish Cup, Willie Collum will be the man in the black for Celtic's home against Livingston with Nick Walsh and Sean Carr on VAR duty. Collum previously officiated Rangers' 2-1 win over Ayr United in the fifth round, marking his first return to Ibrox since being criticised for his role in the VAR room during Rangers' 2-1 loss to Celtic at New Year.

Steven McLean will referee the Light Blues clash with Hibs at Ibrox and will be assisted by Steven Kirkland and Daniel MacFarlane in the VAR. room

David Dickinson will oversee the only match of the round without VAR as Championship side Morton take on Hearts on in the final cup quarter final tie on Monday night, with Kevin Clancy acting as the fourth official..
